It's been a long time since we've had any drumandbass on this show, which is strange since two of the current hosts used to play almost exclusively that. This week Carrboro's Quad Z takes us on a twisted break-trading romp filled with chopped amens and that destroyed saw-wave bass.

March 30th featured two of Chapel Hill's finest veteran DJs. Markus Maerk is one of the co-founders of Chapel Hill's own SignalFest, the long-running Electrobistro and Electronica Viva at the late Ringside in Durham. Morey has been laying down distinctive elegant house sets for more than 10 years as a staple at Electrobistro, Family and other regular dj nights.

A couple weeks back we had the good fortune to host Raleigh's DJ FM. Named the Independent Weekly's best DJ in 2005, DJ FM isn't new to rockin' the decks. He's been djing and producing for over eight years, and playing in bands since before that. His original production ranges from progressive to drumb'n'bass and includes a remixes for local artists and collaborations with vocalists like Greenville's Big Hop.

You didn't think those three things belonged fit together in a set. Heh. Lucky for you you were wrong.

This set covers a lot of ground. Early on we get the electro classic "Clear" by Cybotron which is then sampled by Missy in "Lose Control". New Stuff from DJ Eli Escobar on the Money Lotion label adds a little mash flavor to the deep electro. A little later we crawl into the bass-bins with some up-tempo dubstep from Skream, Boxcutter, and Mala. The dubstep rounds out with Benga & Coki's stormer and UK radio hit (I know! can you believe it?) "Night" and we transition into club sounds with an exclusive cut from yours truly and a Scottie B re-mix(fix?) of Skream's 2005 classic "Midnight Request Line". Also in the club part of the set there's good stuff from Bamabounce and Zebo. If the last tune sounds familiar it's because M.I.A. got her shot at DJ Blaqstarr's "Hands Up Thumbs Down" on her 2007 release "Kala" as "World Town". Just so you know, DJ Blaqstarr did it first.
