Tune in to tonight's Thursday Night Feature on WXYC.org for some deep listening with Buddha Machines.
Buddha Machines are the product of Chinese music duo FM3. The Machines are simple electronic boxes roughly the size of a cigarette pack, each holding about ten loops that play indefinitely. In an age of MP3 abundance, people often call Buddha Machines the anti-iPod.
Buddha Machines themselves are inspired from "singing Buddha machines," similar devices often found in Buddhist monasteries that play back the repetitive chants of monks. FM3 hijacks these hypnotic devices with sounds of their own.
Tonight on The Backyard Barbecue: a few tracks off the new Organos (Durham, NC experimental-folk-indie pop) record, Concha. 8 to 9 PM. Mute your TV volume so you can watch yer sports AND listen to good music.
