THIS WEEK ON WXYC

PARTY AT THE FEEDBACK FARM!
9PM / THE RADIO STATION / WEDNESDAY
EXPECT: noise keg, enticingly plattered array of samples, engaging conversation, audio body shots, game of find-the-headphones & MORE

The same week a tribute album drops for New Zealand underground music veteran, and recent stroke sufferer, Chris Knox, WXYC will air a Thursday Night Feature retrospective on the enduring noise-pop scene he helped spawn. Moving back and forth between the ultra-pop and the ultra-noise and everything in between, and with everything from the long-going acts to the defunct and the upstart, the show will look at how the scene expanded to allow all of these groups to support each other in their often divergent, often similar goals for DIY music. Hosted by Jonathan W. 9pm

THIS WEEK ON WXYC

On this week's Thursday Night Feature, "Hot! Dope! Fresh!" returns for a third installment. This month's H!D!F! will be more smooth and laid back. There will be exclusive new tracks from several soul and r&b; artists with a sprinkling of hip hop.

Scheduled Interviews:

Krave: ATL, GA natives. I interviewed this r&b; trio when they were first starting out in July 2008. Since that time they have been on a consistent global grind. Their hard work is finally beginning to pay off. Krave are the newest signees to Akon's Konvict Music record label.

On Monday night's Inside Track, where new records get played in their entirety, we'll listen to the jamass and very accessible "Blue Record" from Savannah metalheads Baroness at 9pm. The 'Track is back on Friday to bring you... What? The Flaming Lips made a noisy record that isn't indie popcaca? I'm on board. It's called "Embryonic" - join us at 9pm.

On this month's installment of the Global Music Show, WXYC DJ Joseph Palis and guest lecturer Beth-Ann Kutchma from The Center for Global Initiatives (CGI) present Music as Message: Global Connections through Song. Friday at 5pm.

On this week's Thursday Night Feature, "Hot! Dope! Fresh!" returns for another installment. Hosted by Nanci O at 9pm.

Scheduled Interviews:

Kooley High: Raleigh, NC based. If you're from RDU and don't know who Kooley HIgh is, SHAME ON YOU!
Earlier this month Kooley High invited me to the infamous Break Room Studios in Raleigh where the entire group came together for this interview that they deemed as "therapeutic and much needed" after it was over.
In January Rolling Stone named Kooley High to the Hype Monitor as one of the top hip hop groups to watch in 2009. Since that time the group has released a group project and several individual projects. Kooley consists of Charlie Smarts, Rapsody, The Sinopsis, DJ Ill Digitiz and Tab-One. Both Charlie and Tab have released solo projects. Lone femcee of the group Rapsody is signed to producer 9th Wonder's JAMLA record label with a solo project dropping soon.

Once no more than a humble bean in Ethiopia, today Coffee is one of the most popular drinks in the world. Tune in to the Feedback Farm on Wednesday at 9pm for an audio event on the subject of this invigorating beverage.

On this Friday's Inside Track, where new albums get played in their entirety, listen to the new self-titled disc from NYC noise rockers, Slasher Risk. 9pm.

To round out your radio week, tune in for this Sunday's very special episode of WXYC Reports, on which the news team will examine the emergence of the Sierra Club's Coal-Free Campus Campaign at UNC and the university's commitment to ultimately trade coal for biomass. What does this mean? Is it viable? How long will it take, and what is the cost? Also, WXYC Reports staff take a humorous and socially insightful look at what they're doing when they waste time on the Internet. Fun times. 5pm.
