Miscellaneous comments

A Matador Records interview with Joan Busko, mother of Polvo's Dave Brylawski, in which she praises WXYC.
The following appears in Music USA: The Rough Guide (1999, Rough Guides Ltd.) in a chapter about Chapel Hill (page 131).
Chapel Hill's radio is mostly like radio anywhere else in the US; but there is at least one station that deserves special attention.
WXYC 89.3 FM. The dominant source for good music. Famous as the first radio station to broadcast on the Internet. Playlist varies from Fugazi or Apples in Stereo to Leadbelly, the Carter Family, Evan Lurie and lots of local talent. The 'Backyard Bar-B-Q' (Sunday 8-9 p.m.) spotlights North Carolinan music past and present, as well as new local demo tapes and a reading of the week's local concerts. Also worth catching is 'Thursday Night Feature' (9 p.m.-midnight), with in-depth shows on specific artists, themes, regions and genres."
